Lee Bontecou

Bontecou gained national attention with solo exhibitions at the Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, in the early 1960's that were widely hailed in the art press. Bontecou's sculptures--relief constructions of canvas over a shaped armature with other found materials--associated her with the movement known as junk sculpture and assemblage that emerged in the 1950s.
