He is the Artist-in-Residence and teaches at the Art Department at Baylor University in Waco. He has a B.F.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and a M.F.A. from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Mr. Umlauf is best-known for his large wall-supported sculpture of molded fiberglass or cast paper referencing land formations.His work has been selected for many national public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; the Modern Museum of Art in New York; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Fogg Art Museum in Cambridge, MA, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He is also well-represented in regional museum collections in El Paso, Dallas, Beaumont, Waco, Tyler, and others.
