Arnaldo Roche RabellSanturce, Puerto Rico, 1955 - 2018

Born in San Sunturce, Puerto Rico in 1955, Roche studied architecture before coming to Chicago to pursue his interest in painting and drawing at the the School of the Art Institute. He found mentors there, including Richard Loescher, who chaired the department of art history and criticism. Roche won several drawing prizes and became the first Puerto Rican to be awarded the Medallion of Lincoln. He earned his M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1984.
