Alison Saar

Saar was born in Los Angeles in 1956 to Betye Saar, a prominent African American artist. Alison Saar was born and raised in Los Angeles in a family of renowned artists. The artist, whose ancestry is a rich mix of African American, American Indian and European sources, draws upon myth, magic and ritual for her imagery. She is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. Exhibitions and collections include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of Art, High Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Santa Monica Museum of Art and Denver Art Museum.
