Debra NorbyFargo, North Dakota, 1953 -

Debra Norby graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B. A. in Art in 1975. She began her career in commercial art but became dissatisfied with the stressful deadline-driven atmosphere in advertising and began to experiment in clay. Norby uses a low fire earthenware, mostly slab constructed and hand painted with underglazes then fired. Then a clear glaze is applied to the top and refired.

In the teapot series the anteater is a recurring theme. This teapot in particular is a stiff angular four legged imaginary animal with an anteater face, small ears, a pink-chevron-shaped saddle blanket, and decorated woth colorful polka-dots and lines.

Norby's style is instincively creative and full of imagination.
